About the meeting

The meeting will include information and discussion on:

What is Community-Controlled Choice, the desegregation/equity plan that's proposed in Brooklyn and D3 (Upper West side / Harlem)?  How can parents make it happen and make sure it's done well?
What are the issues in the specific schools our kids attend? Pooling our knowledge about what inequity and segregation look like -- and also how individual schools are making things work, will greatly strengthen our demands for real solutions.
What should we (parents) do to move the DOE and local CECs (community education councils) to act on solutions toward school inequity and segregation?  What can we do at the school level, at the district level - and at the city level? What can we do now to counter the often racist, disrespectful messages raised in public meetings about schools?
After discussing the above, we can identify the most important actions to work on, figure out how to organize (through smaller workgroups), and set a meeting schedule.

Other topics important to our group include looking at:

.... What other solutions are being discussed and what should parents be pushing for?  (e.g. PTA income-sharing)

.... How can we move and help our schools to build curricula around the movements and issues currently affecting our lives -- including Black Lives Matter, Islamophobia, and others?

* RSVP: An RSVP is appreciated for planning purposes.  Please RSVP via (917) 517-3627 or nycpsped@gmail.com.  Thank you! ,
